This lamp is a reproduction of Gustav Stickleys Number 501
desk lamp. The design follows the lines of his bent-wood compass
logo. Berkeley craftsman Steve Murphy builds them of quarter-sawn
white oak, the upright pieces being steam-bent. He dyes the wood
to get an accurate mission oak brown color, and then
uses an ultraviolet-blocking varnish to protect the wood and the
color. All the metal parts are solid brass, aged by a chemical patina.
The lamp has a brown rayon-covered lamp cord. 40 watt bulb or less
recommended; for the historic look use and 11S14 bulb (11 watts,
1-3/4" in diameter), or a 15A (small 15 watt) bulb.
